Aluminium 6082-T6
Higher-strength European-spec structural aluminium. The most-rolled grade in India.
6082-T6 is an Al-Mg-Si-Mn alloy with higher Mn content than 6061, giving slightly better grain refinement and yield strength. It is the EU's standard structural alloy and what Hindalco rolls in volume for the European market. Stock availability in India is at parity with 6061 — frequently supplied interchangeably.

Use Cases
Default Indian structural alloy
Higher Mn content gives slightly better grain refinement vs 6061. Preferred where higher YS in T6 is needed. EU equivalent of 6061.
Welded fabrications
Bridge structural members, scissor lift booms, conveyor frames. Use 4043 or 5356 filler; expect ~50% strength reduction in HAZ.
Truck / trailer bodies, automotive subframes
Specified by IS 65032 and 65082 for Indian commercial vehicles.
Defence & rifle accessories
Rails, handguards, optic mounts. T651 plate preferred for monolithic upper receivers.
CNC machining stock
Slightly more abrasive on tooling than 6061 due to higher Si, but excellent chip control.
Design Notes
- 6082 is acceptable for ~95% of 6061 use cases. Exception: when supplier traceability or specific aerospace certification (e.g., AMS 4102 calls out 6061 explicitly) is contractually required.
- Same anodising and weldability characteristics as 6061.
Indian Sourcing
More commonly stocked than 6061 in India. Hindalco's standard structural aluminium is 6082-T6.
